# PTFE Makes a Comeback at Dyneon: What It Means for Materials and Supply

When we looked at the future of PTFE in June, [after three years of PFAS debate](/company/news/ptfe-after-three-years-of-pfas-debate), one thing was clear: Dyneon would continue operations and restart production under new ownership. What remained unclear was which materials would return – and when.

Now, the picture is becoming clearer. Dyneon is ramping up production at its Gendorf site, with virgin PTFE, [modified PTFE (mPTFE)](/solutions/modified-ptfe), PFA and other fluoropolymers set to return.

## What does Dyneon’s comeback mean for PTFE and mPTFE?

For IDT as a gasket manufacturer – and for many of our customers – this is an important development. Dyneon has been an established supplier of mPTFE for many years, particularly with its TFM™ materials.

Restarting production could improve the availability of proven materials made in Europe and strengthen European supply chains. With geopolitical uncertainty continuing to affect global sourcing, shorter supply routes and fewer dependencies could become increasingly important.

## Which PTFE materials are coming back?

There are still some important questions to answer. Which grades will return? When can regular deliveries be expected? Will familiar materials come back with the same specifications? And what will the restart mean for existing approvals and applications?

PTFE compounds such as TFM™ 4105 are another important consideration. Based on the information currently available to us, there are no immediate plans to restart production of these compounds.

## We’re going to Gendorf to find out more

At the end of September, we’ll visit Dyneon in Gendorf to discuss the restart directly with the team there. We want to get answers to the questions that matter to users: Which materials will be available? When? What can customers expect in terms of quality and supply reliability? And what does the restart mean for the future of mPTFE?

After several years of uncertainty, the return of an established European manufacturer could make a real difference. We want to understand exactly what is coming back – and what it means for the market.
