Happy Lunar New Year 2025
On January 29, 2025, the first day of the traditional Chinese calendar marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year: the year of the snake.

The Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, is the most important Chinese holiday. It marks the first day of the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar, which is based on the phases of the moon. The first day of the Chinese New Year begins at the new moon, which occurs between January 21 and February 20.
In 2025, this day falls on January 29, which marks the end of the Year of the Dragon and the beginning of the new Year of the Snake. The snake is the sixth sign of the Chinese zodiac. It embodies wisdom, beauty and adaptability.
Celebrations traditionally take place from the evening before the first day of the year until the Lantern Festival on the 15th of the year and include dragon and lion dances, as well as fireworks to drive away evil spirits. Traditionally, families gather for dinner and cleaning on this day. This is to drive away misfortune and make way for incoming good luck.
One of the most well-known traditions of the Chinese New Year is the red decoration that can be seen everywhere. The color red symbolizes happiness and joy. It can be seen in the red lanterns, in red envelopes with monetary gifts [hongbao] and red paper cutouts that are supposed to bring luck and prosperity in the new year.
These customs and values can also be a model for us, because they show us the importance of change and adaptation, which will also play a major role for us in 2025.
